AFF Selection Commission - Nominations
Following the Australian Fencing Federation's Annual General Meeting on 19 May, the AFF is now calling for nominations from members of the fencing community willing and wishing to be part of the Selection Commission. The Commission forms an integral, essential and valued part of the running of the organisation.
Information about the Selection Commission is in the documentation found on this website under the AFF and its Members / AFF Organisational Structure (click here).
Nominations will be accepted only via the AFF Portal, and will close on Friday 31 May. Any enquiries regarding details of the roles of Commission members, and the tasks and workload involved, should be directed in the first instance to: This email address is being protected from spambots. Hong Kong Cadet & Junior Championships – Points Correction
The AFF Executive advises the Australian Fencing community that at its meeting this morning (18th May), following a detailed review of communications regarding the allocation of ranking points for the Hong Kong Cadet & Junior Championships, that an incorrect posting occurred on the AFF’s website. The number of points to be allocated for this Championships will be equivalent to the points awarded for Oceania Cadet and Junior Championships respectively (outside Australia) as per the AFF Selection Policy (Appendix A).
The AFF Selection Commission Chairperson’s written advice to the AFF Executive was posted verbatim to the AFF website. Given the independent nature of deliberations of the AFF Selection Commission, the AFF Executive saw no reason to question the advice.
Subsequent concerns, raised more recently, with the AFF Operations Director were immediately referred to the AFF President to avoid any perceived conflicts of interest. Any perceived delays in addressing this matter, arise from AFF President’s need to review all aspects of the matter and provide a report for the AFF Executive meeting. During these investigations the AFF Selection Commission Chairperson confirmed that the original advice was an inadvertent error. The AFF Executive has acted to address this error.
The AFF Executive unreservedly apologises to all fencers that may have acted on the posted incorrect advice.
2013 National Cadets/Under-15s Camp
In conjunction with the NSW Fencing Association, and as part of the National Cadets (Under-17s) / Under-15s Championships, the AFF is hosting a three-weapon camp for competitors on 5 July 2012, from 1pm - 6pm.
The camp will be held at the same location as the 2013 National Cadets/Under-15s Championships, in Marrickville (see here), and will cost $60 per participant. The camp will be run by the AFF's National coaching staff. Overseas competitors are welcome to be part of this camp.
Places are limited to 30 fencers per weapon, and participants must register for the camp through the Portal (http://portal.fencing.org.au) by 28 June. You will need to register in the National Portal if you have not yet done so.

2013 AFC Schools (Individual) Championships
The AFC School Fencer Championships offers the opportunity for school-age fencers to represent their State in a representative level competition.
Competition Format
Each State is permitted to nominate a maximum of four fencers in each event, and each fencer is only permitted to compete in one event. Each event consists of an individual competition immediately followed by a team competition.
There are two age categories:
Intermediate – students up to the third year of secondary school in their respective states
Senior – open to any school student
This means that States can send a total of eight athletes in each weapon and gender (4 in each category). The two categories will be fenced as separate events, unless there are insufficient competitors, in which case the fields will be combined but separate medals will be awarded.
Equipment Requirements
FIE Standard blades are required and must be in good safe condition. FIE Standard equipment (masks and protective clothing) is recommended for all competitors. However, the minimum requirement is 1600N for masks, 800N for underplastrons (required), and 350N for jackets and breeches. For School events, the AFF does not require fencers to use conductive bibs in Foil. Fencers will need to present masks, weapons, wires and lames to Weapons Control before the event, and weapons will be subject to testing on the strip as in other AFF competitions.
Proposed Timetable
Start times are for the individual competition – the team competition will commence directly after the conclusion of each individual event
